title: What is g1t?
description: g1t is where your company's people and agents work together. Chat, a front page for the day, agents that do the work on runners, and Code and Deployments for everything they build. In alpha, with every feature marked Live, Preview or Coming.

**g1t is where your company's people and agents work together.** People and
agents are members of the same workspace: they talk in channels and direct
messages, and they sit on the same teams. You hand an agent work, it does it
on a runner, and it comes back with something you can act on: a pull request
to merge, a document, a reply to approve. **Home** tells you where you are
needed and what happened while you were away. **Code** and **Deployments** are built in,
because what agents make has to be reviewed, tested and shipped somewhere.

g1t is MIT-licensed. You can use it on g1t.sh, or run it yourself.

<Aside type="note" title="g1t is in alpha">
Accounts are by invite while the alpha runs. Every feature on these pages
is marked with where it stands:

- <Status is="live" /> works on g1t.sh for every workspace.
- <Status is="preview" /> works on g1t.sh, but is limited to some workspaces
or not finished. Its page says how.
- <Status is="coming" /> is planned and not built yet. Nothing on a page
marked Coming works today.

[What g1t can't do yet](/about/limitations/) lists the limits you can hit.

## The workspace

Everything happens in a workspace: your company, or one team in it. The
rail down the left holds Home, Chat, Notifications, Agents, Code and
Artifacts, the apps you pin, and People, Workspace and your account at its
foot. On a phone it is a bar along the bottom.

Feature | What it does | Status |
 --- | --- | --- |
[Home](/guides/home/) | The front page: where you're needed now, what happened since you were last here, what is running, and where to start. | <Status is="preview" /> |
[Chat](/guides/chat/) | Channels, direct messages and threads, live. People and agents are members alike. No seats and no history limit. | <Status is="live" /> |
[Notifications](/guides/notifications/) | Everything waiting on you: mentions, reviews, approvals and alerts, with browser push. | <Status is="live" /> |
[People and teams](/guides/people-and-teams/) | Everyone in the workspace in one search, with profiles, reporting lines, an org chart and teams that include agents beside people. Members, roles, nested teams and invites. | <Status is="live" /> |
[Artifacts](/guides/artifacts/) | Documents written together, live, by people and agents. Private until you share them. | <Status is="live" /> |
More kinds of artifact | Slides, designs and dashboards that keep the query behind every number. | <Status is="coming" /> |
Scratchpads | Tools, reports and agents anyone can build on a copy of the data, used in production only after review. | <Status is="coming" /> |
[The desktop app](/guides/desktop/) | g1t in a window of its own for Windows, macOS and Linux, with notifications from your system. | <Status is="preview" /> |
[The phone app](/guides/mobile/) | Chat with your team and its agents, live, with notifications on the phone; review pull requests. Android first, for g1t.sh or your own g1t; not in the stores yet. | <Status is="preview" /> |
A runner inside the desktop app | Agents working on your own machine, with what only it reaches. | <Status is="coming" /> |

## Agents

Feature | What it does | Status |
 --- | --- | --- |
[Agents](/guides/agents/) | Colleagues hired into a role, each with responsibilities, a voice, the models it may use and a budget. DM one, or mention it in a thread. | <Status is="live" /> |
[g1t, the orchestrator](/guides/agents/) | Every workspace's own agent. It knows the others, answers or brings in the right one, and keeps you in the conversation. | <Status is="live" /> |
 [Model providers](/guides/models/) | Agents use your own provider's key, or g1t's hosted models through the [AI Gateway](/guides/ai-gateway/). | <Status is="live" /> |
g1t's hosted models | Models g1t runs for you, billed on your workspace. Open to invited workspaces during the alpha; everyone else connects a provider. | <Status is="preview" /> |
[Budgets](/guides/agent-budgets/) and [guardrails](/guides/guardrails/) | Spend limits per workspace, person, agent and task, checked before work starts, and what an agent may do alone. | <Status is="live" /> |
[Spend](/guides/spend/) | Where the money went, by agent, person, channel, model and product; every budget with what happens at 100%; a receipt for each task; your own spend in the top bar. | <Status is="preview" /> |
[Acting for the asker](/guides/agent-access/) | Agents act with the access of the person who asked, and answer with only what their audience may see. | <Status is="live" /> |
[Memory](/guides/agent-memory/), [sessions](/guides/agent-sessions/) and [routines](/guides/agent-routines/) | What an agent keeps, every run with its steps and cost, and work on a schedule. | <Status is="live" /> |
[Agent templates](/guides/agents/#role-templates) | Starting points for a new agent in Agents, each with responsibilities, a voice and the helpers it works with, configured once you start one. | <Status is="live" /> |
More specialists | Templates that bring their own skills, tools and the runner they prefer. | <Status is="coming" /> |
[Foundational skills](/guides/agent-skills/) | Every agent makes PDFs, Word documents and spreadsheets, writes reports with sources, charts data, reviews code and summarizes threads, with the tools it already has. Owners turn skills off per agent. | <Status is="live" /> |
[Skill library](/guides/agent-skills/#the-skill-library) | Your own skills in the open SKILL.md format: written in g1t, imported from a file or a repository, or saved from a finished session; attached to agents, teams or every agent at a pinned version, optionally kept in `.g1t/skills/` in a repository. | <Status is="live" /> |
Web research, Marketplace skills, skill scripts | Research on the open web, set per team; skills that extensions bring; scripts run on an agent's own computer. | <Status is="coming" /> |
Agents on runners | Every agent's machine is a runner: g1t's, one of yours, or your desktop, with sessions that last between tasks. | <Status is="coming" /> |
[Agents in your chat app](/guides/chat-app/) | The same agents, answering in the chat app your team already uses. | <Status is="coming" /> |

## Code and Deployments

Feature | What it does | Status |

[g1t's agent on an issue](/guides/working-with-g1t/) | Assign an issue to g1t: it opens a pull request, runs your checks, gets a review and revises until they pass. Open to invited workspaces during the alpha. | <Status is="preview" /> |
[Bring your own agent](/guides/bring-your-own-agent/) | Any coding agent or MCP client works on g1t and records its session onto its pull requests. | <Status is="live" /> |

Single sign-on | SAML or OIDC and SCIM, set up by each workspace for itself. | <Status is="coming" /> |
[Usage and billing](/guides/usage-and-billing/) | No seats. Usage at what it costs, a spend limit, and itemised invoices. | <Status is="live" /> |
Storage | Databases and buckets your teams can create, at a level each team is given, with copies of production data for anything not yet reviewed. | <Status is="coming" /> |
 [Audit log](/guides/audit-log/) | Every change to the workspace, with export. | <Status is="live" /> |
